Hi Guys! Anna here to make an announcement for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Every year, about 80 people are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Wanna help? JDRF has tons of ways you can help support the cause like making donations or participating in community events. Next month, JDRF is holding a walk to cure diabetes on Saturday, March 31st at Mizner Park Amphitheater in Boca Raton. you can sign up to walk at www.walk.jrf.org. A You Matter gOLD Nugget

Did you see your grandparents over the holidays? I did. They’re such extraordinary people: My grandmother works at a nursing home taking care of people (some younger than her), while my grandfather works out at the gym three times a week, along with volunteering at his local church. Many people don’t expect these activities to be performed by elders, but it’s very important to acknowledge the potential of everyone, regardless of their age.

Harry J. Getzov (author of “gOLD”, book pictured above pressed to my sister’s forehead) shed light on the perspective of elders through his newly published book, by having “inspiring conversations” with elderly people. If you listen to stories your grandparents and elder relatives have to share, you might find a topic that will spark your interest. Elders have more knowledge and experience than many people seem to realize – and that really does matter. My mom interviewed Mr. Getzov, listen here.

YMYLs at The EDUBLOG AWARDS!

Hello all! Two You Matter Young Leaders just listened in on the Edublog Awards, half listening and half studying! Also, some big news! The Innovations Lab Blog was shortlisted, which means that lots of people were nominated but IL was included on the official nominee list. Angela Maiers was shortlisted AND a finalist. During the after party, me and my sister picked up the mic and spoke to people all over the world-live! We congratulated all of the people that were nominated and (of course) the winners. We gave an extra special thank you to Angela Maiers!

While this was happening, our mom was drawing on the whiteboard in the meeting room. See if you can spot our You Matter mascot, Atlas the Stick Guy. He will soon be starring in an upcoming video! Stay tuned!

You Matter Young Leaders are inventive! Three YMYLs’ passion for reading took us on a creative journey into the world of movies. Once we saw the amazing response to our You Matter video, we realized we love making (and being in) home-made films. This kick-started our idea to make our own movie adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the first edition to our favorite book series. However, since our dad is a musician, we have some insight about copyright laws. So, we decided to use a short film to ask for permission from Mr. Riordan, the author.
